How to Make Money Blogging

Been asking yourself how to make money blogging? You're not alone. More than a few people have wondered if it's really possible to earn money blogging. Making money from blogging isn't as hard as it seems. Now, don't go thinking you'll instantly get rich from this, but it is a viable way to start an internet home business. Here are a few simple tips to help you get started and hopefully make money blogging.

First and foremost, you need to have an informative, interesting blog, or you'll never get any traffic, which, of course is key if you hope to make money from blogging. If you're not sure what to do, read my article how to start blogging, and/or grab one of the great blogging guides available here on our site. More than a few of them will show you how to make money blogging

Ideally, you should find a "niche" to address your blog to. By that I mean a narrowly defined group of people who will have a natural interest in your blog. Write about something you're familiar with, such as your hobby, or your occupation, or some area of special knowledge, skill, or information that you possess.

You can help define a niche by using the Overture search term suggestion tool and searching on phrases such as "how to" or "learn". You'll find there's quite a list of things that interest people.

Another way to find a niche is to peruse the magazine racks at your local grocery or drug store. Find something of interest to yourself. If there are a few magazines about it, you can bet the topic is of interest to quite a few other people. If the audience weren't there, the magazines wouldn't exist.

Once you've found and defined your niche and begun posting to your blog, it's time to put to work some of the techniques you can use to get started making money from blogging.

Perhaps the easiest way to start making money from blogging is to post some ads in the sidebar. I have had some success using Affiliate Power Ads. This is a free service you sign up for, and by cutting and pasting some code into the sidebar of your blog, you get small banner ads pre-loaded with your affiliate links.

Another, more popular way to earn money blogging is to use Google's AdSense program. This is free to join, also, and you simply cut and paste some code to include the Google ads on your sidebar, or to integrate them into the body of your blog. Take a look at how it works and set up some ads to use AdSense to earn money blogging.

Many people also find that they can make money from blogging by endorsing products. Join some affiliate programs for products that you feel good about and can wholeheartedly endorse, and weave links to them into some of your blog posts. Don't be too blatant about it, or you'll drive your readers away. They need to perceive you as a purveyor of free advice, rather than as a salesperson. Make your posts informative in and of themselves, and mention the products you're endorsing more in passing than by using blatant "sales pitches".

Making money from blogging isn't child's play, but it isn't rocket science, either. The key is in providing quality content, establishing credibility, and attracting a readership.

Are you going to make a zillion bucks using these techniques? Of course not, unless you happen to be one of the lucky few who writes well, operates in a popular niche, and can attract a very large readership base over time. On the other hand, if you establish yourself as a credible source of information even to a relatively small audience, you can pick up a nice side income as a blogger.
